Surely it was only last night when I smiled at the cougar resting on a thick tree branch outside my bedroom window. But no—somehow I blinked, and decades passed. Still, I see him in my imagination as vividly now as I did then.

Between those childhood years and what I’ll freely admit is my senior season, I’ve learned that life’s twists and turns rarely follow the neat outlines we imagined. Through every chapter—raising a family, writing stories, pursuing creative dreams, and navigating seasons of both loss and joy—I’ve discovered that God’s plans are best, even when mine unravel.

And yet, isn’t it marvelous how His joy blesses us in the simplest ways? A puppy’s slobbery greeting. A story idea that won’t let go. A whisper of peace in the middle of a busy day.

Since I’m a sometimes hermit and occasional vagabond, I often emerge from my writing snuggery to make memories with the family, get cozy with must-watch movies and lost in can’t-put-down books, play all types of games, and take long road trips around the country.

Home, however, is in Florida where the sun often shines even when it’s raining, where green—my favorite color—is all over the place, and where gators turn up in the smallest ponds.

My imaginary cougar no longer peers through my window except in my memory. But a huge cast of fictional characters inhabit my world. Whether they journey through the cobbled streets of history or face the complexities of modern life, their stories reveal glimpses of quiet courage and God’s grace.

More than anything, I hope each story I write reflects His steadfast love and invites readers to smile at the future with me.

Verse

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

Praise for Johnnie:

“Come along for the ride as author Johnnie Alexander takes you back to the 1940s and the cloak-and-dagger world of wartime espionage, where a young American agent must decide what to believe, when to trust, and whom to love.”
~ Valerie Fraser Luesse, best-selling author of Letters from My Sister and Under the Bayou Moon

Praise for When Memory Whispers:

“Spies, lies, secrets, and villains keep romance on the run in Johnnie Alexander’s exciting noir novel, When Memory Whispers. It’s been a spell since I’ve found myself engulfed in such a satisfying tale of espionage, but I was drawn along almost as breathlessly as the heroine. As Marie's (a.k.a. Sparrow's) story grew more dangerous and complex, I couldn’t help glancing inwardly with her on her path of finding courage through the sorrows of life. A finely-paced, escapist read!”
~ Naomi Musch, award-winning author of Season of My Enemy
